Leigha- Lesson plan reflection

My biggest take away from flipping my role in the classroom, and being the facilitator, rather than the student or participant, was how refreshing and eye-opening it was. To see how much thought goes into assigning work and reading made me further appreciate and almost respect work and reading professors assign me on a daily basis.

In terms of how Bean and I did as a duo, overall, I think it went well. Our comments from peers were all positive in the debrief at the end of class, but I wish we had implicated the various types of feedback (the grandma’s sweater feedback?) and that people would have been more honest or blunt, which I know is easier said than done in the moment. In hindsight, Bean and I could have reordered the sequence of activities and discussions that we presented to the class in order to make the lesson plan even more cohesive and have it flow better, rather than it being so choppy. I think that because of this fault, the “students” were caused to shift gears too much during the short class period.

I myself can get nervous if I overthink public speaking, so succeeding in the facilitator position relied heavily on my own confidence. By knowing the information thoroughly, that including the research, the presented information and both readings, is what made me feel comfortable during the lesson. I think that I could have done a better job articulating what I meant to say or get across to the class at times, and I wish I could tell myself to slow down in those moments.

Bean and I worked well together, but I did learn a lot working with her. Although we are

close friends and teammates, this is not only the first time we have had a class together but also the first time we have worked on a project together. I think we have both been surprised to find how differently we learn and think. I am extremely organized and methodical in my works in a way that relies more on a natural thought process. At first, this was difficult- I want to be able to check off boxes and cross things off a list, while Bean wants to step back and look at the bigger picture. Eventually, we surpassed the moments of disconnect and were able to set reasonable yet challenging goals for ourselves going into this project and we hope to do so moving forward when we go into working on our digital learning tool project.
