Learning Outcomes
By the end of the semester, students should be able to:
- Recognize and identify avant-garde artists & writers based on characteristic forms, styles, and subject matter;
- Read avant-garde texts critically, identifying formal patterns, compositional strategies, and thematic concerns;
- Contextualize and historicize the texts they read;
- Read literary theory and criticism effectively, identifying core ideas, structures of argumentation, and motivations.
- Understand, find, generate, and use metadata;
- Research and write for an educated, public audience;
- Conduct a literature review of an avant-garde author, text, or movement;
- Design and create a digital work of scholarship that conveys the significance and relevance of a particular avant-garde writer or practice to users in a dynamic, innovative way.
