ACADEMICS

Community: This specific meme appeals to students. However, because the meme is so broad, it can be applied to just about any community.

Visual Rules:

  • singular, multi-subjeect picture
  • have one zoomable subject
  • subject must be contradiction of other subjects
  • subject must be contradiction of word

Linguistic Rules:

  • singular, broad/vague word (ie: academics, sports, learning, etc)
  • must follow a series of 3+ zoomed versions of one image
    • must precede a final version of the most zoomed in version of the image

  1. I love the way this meme using the language of comics (think of Scott McCloud’s Understanding Comics) to create a series of panel-to-panel transitions by zooming (“aspect to aspect”?) in order to tell a story that actually subverts the overall image.

  2. Zoom memes are great. I particularly like the use of zoom here because I think it adds to the tension this guy feels in a class where he appears to be confused with the material. I can definitely relate to his expression.
