How I Became My Mother Prototype 3

Goals: My goals for this prototype were to use the paper for my final version- a floral printed scrapbooking paper and to fix the errors from prototype 2 (adding in “pull string” and fixing the spider). I also used colored images for this prototype.

Fulfilling these goals: I successfully was able to use the scrapbooking paper, but because the pages are 12×12 instead of 8.5×11 I had to make some adjustments to the layout to make the book look more full, so I added in a few more pictures. I made the spider cut out better this time by shortening the string and I included a caption “pull string.” I also used a suggestion from Dr. Churchill to make better use of my accordion, so I was able to cover up and image, making multiple meanings.

What I wasn’t able to do: I have a limited amount of the scrapbooking paper, so I was not able to tape in my images and text in case I needed to change something. For the pictures included I laid out the pages how they will appear and then I paper clipped in all of the images and text for the layout in a changeable form.

What I learned: In this draft I learned about making adjustments to different sizes of paper. I knew that the paper would be a different size but didn’t think about how this would affect the need for more images. Also, I learned about how to use the layout (spreads) of the pages more effectively, especially with my accordion

  1. This is so beautiful! It was really cool seeing how you’ve transformed your second version into this one– the paper is so pretty! I can’t wait to see the final product.

Your layout right now looks good to me, but I totally understand not wanting to tape anything until youre 100% set on it

  2. Hey Madeline!
This is really a great piece of art you have made here! The scrapbooking paper is absolutely beautiful and does a nice job of making your story even more beautiful as a result. So great job! My only suggestion would be to maybe add some kind of cool border around some of your pictures in order to make them pop. Other than that it all looks wonderful! My question is what kind of binding do you think will work best for your final product?

  3. Madeline,

Your book looks really great– the scrapbooking paper is a really interesting touch. I thought my book looked pretty good, until I saw the obvious time and effort you’ve put into yours. Your topic is touching, too. I’m interested to see how the final product turns out.
