Getting good, constructive comments helps the author revise and become a better writer. But <em>giving<\/em> good, constructive comments also helps <em>you<\/em> become a better writer. In fact, you may learn more from the\u00a0 comments you give than from the ones that you get. Once you start examining other people\u2019s writing more closely and identifying their strengths and weaknesses, you\u2019ll be able to apply the lessons to your own writing.<\/p>\n<p>Take the time to write supportive, substantive comments, using the \u201c<strong>no sweat<\/strong>\u201d method. Each comment should include:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>One <strong>S<\/strong>trength;<\/li>\n<li>One thing to <strong>W<\/strong>ork on;<\/li>\n<li>One thing to <strong>T<\/strong>hink about.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Be specific. The \u201cone thing to think about\u201d should substantively address the content of the piece. It could be an insight, a question, or a recommendation for further reading.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For all required posts, you must comment on at least 3 of your classmates\u2019\u00a0 posts<\/strong>. Try to distribute comments equally: if someone already has a couple comments, search for someone who has none.
